Three slate workers, including tools and slates.
A team of three slate workers, including tools and slates.
Figures are based on photographs of early 20th Century slate workers operating at a number of locations across Wales.
It was normal for slate workers to be organised in teams of three men, each in charge of one stage of the process.
Includes:
1. Body of standing man splitting large slate between his legs with mallet and stone chisel.
2. Body of seated man (often pictured sat on slates, or stool) splitting large slate with slate knives.
3. Body of man, seated on wedge shaped straddle, and cutting/finishing slate on iron bar with large knife.
4. Selection of suitable heads.
5. Large slate slab with mallet and chisels/knives.
6. 'Rees', a massive wooden mallet used for splitting big pieces of slate down.
7. Two loads of large 'Duchess' sized slates + a partial load of the same sized slates.
8. Two loads of small 'Countess' sized slates + a partial load of the same sized slates.
The bodies will accept any heads, and a number of suitable heads are included with this item.
NOTE: Slate loads of these sizes are also available separately and are intended to fit in most slate waggons.
Painting of the entire set counts as 'five miniatures'.
